How To Change Windows Login (Welcome) Screen Mannualy.

Just make sure that you have the “Use welcome screen” option activated in Control Panel –> Users Accounts –> Logon and Logoff Options before trying to apply this trick.
Basically there are two ways to change your login screen. one is to either replace your default login screen with your new one and the other method is to play with the registry such that it recognizes the new login screen as the default one ..
The following steps will guide you how to over write your existing login screen with your new one.

Here are the steps

1. Make a backup copy of C:\windows\system32\logonui.exe
2. Rename your new login screen to logonui.exe
3. Overwrite the existing login screen file with your new login screen and thats it you are done.
Second method that will help Windows identify your new login screen as the default one. The good thing about this trick it that you don’t have to delete or replace your original login screen file. Here it goes.
1. Copy your custom login screen file under another name, let’s say logonuiA.exe, to      C:\Windows\system3\
2. Open Start menu –> Run –> and type Regedit
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –> SOFTWARE –> Microsoft –> Windows NT –> CurrentVersion –> Winlogon and change the value for UIHost to logonuiA.exe.

Rever To your Old Login Screen

If you ever feel like restoring your original login screen then all you have to do is use the backup copy of logonui.exe and paste it in C:\windows\system32\ and select over write.

How To Hide a harddisk partition in Windows Xp/Vista

You may need to hide a drive either for security reasons (to ensure that children do not have access to a backup drive, for example) or for practical reasons (if your PC has multiple memory card readers never used).
Here’s how to do so, under XP and Vista.
A command in the registry will tell Windows Explorer not to display some readers.
Technically, the system uses a binary value of 32 bits where each bit corresponds to a reader. Bit 0 is the drive A, bit 1 in drive B, etc.. When this bit is “1″ the player is hidden, otherwise it is visible.
  • Go to Start, then Run and then type regedit.
  • Deploy the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer”
  • If the DWORD (32 bit) named NoDrives does not exist, start by creating (click the right mouse button and select New then Value DWORD).
  • Double-click NoDrives to amend this item, select Base Decimal and enter into the data field the decimal value of the player to hide (e.g. 512 for the drive J: )
  • If you hide multiple drives, take their different decimal values and add them.
  • A: 1
  • B: 2
  • C: 4
  • D: 8
  • E: 16
  • F: 32
  • G: 64
  • H: 128
  • I: 256
  • J: 512
  • K: 1024
  • L: 2048

How to Change Windows XP Start Button Text and Logo

Learn how to hack / change your start button in Windows XP

One of the most annoying thing in windows XP is the start button text, which almost every user want to change as per my experience. I’ve read a number of articles on the internet about changing the text on the Start button in XP, however many of them are incomplete, difficult or unsafe. Here i wiil show you exactly how to change the "start" button to whatever you like and even change the picture next to it.

This tutorial is more for advanced pc users, so if you are a begginer or not shure what are you doing, i strongly recommend you to use System Restore to undo changes if problems occur. You can read more about System Restore here.
Step 1: Modify explorer.exe

First of all you need to download a program called Resource Hacker that will really assist you in helping you find what you are looking for and making sure you do not mess up along the way.

Download Resource Hacker

As always before changing anything make shure you back up everything you edit or delete. So open My Computer and navigate to C:\Windows and look for explorer. Copy paste it to a safe location on your hard drive.

Now that you've backed it up, start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe

Change the Windows Start Button Text

Expand the "String Table" menu, then select folder 37 and click on 1033. The "start" value is on line 4, after the 578. Change the text "start" to anything you want, making sure you keep the quotes. In this example i changed the text to "Hacking Tips and Tricks".

Press the Compile Script button to make Resource Hacker put together the code.

Change the Picture Next to
the Windows Start Button

Collapse the String Table folder and expand the Bitmap folder, then select folder 143 and right-click on 1033. Select "Replace Resource", then click on "Open file with new bitmap". Select a Bitmap picture (.bmp extension) with a size of 25 pixels by 20 pixels. Click the Replace button. if you would like to make a bitmap image with transparency, you will need an advanced icon making program such as Axialis IconWorkshop.

When you have changed your button to whatever you want, click "File", "Save As", and save it as explorerhacked.exe. (Note: You can change it to whatever you like, but in this demonstration i am using the explorerhacked file).

Step 2: Changing the Registry

Now that the modified explorer.exe has been created it's necessary to modify the registry so the file will be recognized when the user logs on to the system. Go to "Start", "Run", and type in "regedit". When the Registry Editor loads expand to the following directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Windows NT, CurrentVersion, and WinLogon. In that directory find the entry that is titled "Shell" and right-click it. Select "Modify". Now, type in ExplorerHacked.exe.

All you have to do now is reboot your computer and log back in to Windows XP. You should see the changes that you've made to the Start button.

Here is how my start button looks like. I know it's far from perfect, but anyway i costumized it just to present you this tutorial.

How to Improve Windows XP Shutdown Speed

Shorten the time it takes for your desktop to appear when you turn on your PC and make XP shut down faster as well.

In some cases computers running with Windows XP takes too much time to shutdown and repeatedly annoy users with pop up messages asking if you really want to quit the applications. This problem is mainly due to applications that install services that start at Windows XP boot time and then take a very long time to stop and sometimes time out when Windows is being shut down. No matter how fast your PC shuts down, it's not fast enough. This tweak reduces the time Windows-XP waits before automatically closing any running programs when you give it the command to shutdown.

How to Improve Your Computers Shutdown And Reboot Speed?

For speeding up your shutdown and reboot time in Windows XP, you need to edit some registry settings. Follow the steps as given below:

1. Go to Start then select Run

2. Type 'Regedit' and click ok

3. Find 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\'

4. Select 'WaitToKillAppTimeout'

5. Right click and select 'Modify'

6. Change the value to '1000'

7. Click 'OK'

8. Now select 'HungAppTimeout'

9. Right click and select 'Modify'

10. Change the value to '1000'

11. Click 'OK'

When you complete the above steps, you will find your Windows startup and shutdown faster than before.

Warning: Modifying the Windows registry can cause serious damage to your Windows Operating System. It is better to backup your Windows registry data before making any changes. I am not responsible for any changes you may make to your system.
