[How-to] install indian rupee symbol on your computer

New Currency Symbol of  India- Fifth currency in the world to have a distinct identity. The Indian Rupee has previously been denoted as INR with no symbol of its own. From now on the Indian Rupee has its own unique symbol to identify it.
The  Indian government will try that the symbol is adopted within six months in the country and globally within 18 to 24 months.
Knowing the way Indian government works, it might take some time before you can actually use the new rupee symbol in your mails or word documents. :-P
Mangalore based Foradian Technologies Pvt Ltd has created a font called Rupee Foradian. Users can download the new symbol from their blog for free.
But since this is not a standard font, avoid using it when sending a document to someone else, because if the person doesn’t have the font installed on their system, they will only see a ~ symbol.
But you need not wait that long. You could download the new rupee symbol on to your computer as a rupee font right now and use it. Indian print media have already started using the rupee symbol.
The company created a vector image of the new rupee symbol and mapped the grave accent symbol, the key just above the tab button on your keyboard, with it. This keystroke was chosen because it is rarely used.
Download the Free Rupee Font Version 2.0 from Foradian Blog and enjoy.

Visit Password Protected Websites without registering..!

We all know how annoying it is when we search Google for something and the result we are looking for leads to a password protected forum or site. You have to register to view content, but who likes doing that?
Fortunately there is a solution to save your time and email account from spam – pretending to be Googlebot. For those of you that don’t know, Googlebot is Google’s “spider” that crawls sites and indexes them for Google’s search results. More about Googlebot. The owner of a password protected site also wants their site to be on Google, so they make a separate account on their site for Googlebot.
We can use this small security hole and visit a website pretending to be Googlebot. This way you are automatically logged into the site or forum and don’t need to enter any password or login info. Sounds good, doesn’t it? Here’s how:
Step 1. If you’re not using it already, get Firefox! It’s a lot better than Internet Explorer and here’s why.
Step 2. Download and install the User Agent Switcher plugin for Firefox.
Step 3. Restart Firefox to complete the installation and go to Tools -> User Agent Switcher -> Options -> Options. In the window that opens, select the User Agents tab and press Add.
Step 4. Add a new user agent. Write Googlebot for the description and Googlebot/2.1+(+http://www.google.com/bot.html)” in the User Agent box as shown above. Press OK and you’re good to go!
Now you can visit most password protected sites and forums that appear on Google’s search results. Here are a few to try:

10 Steps you should do when your Computer Hangs up

You are in the middle of doing your work, suddenly you realized your computer hanged up. But the problem is, you have not saved your work! Don’t panic! There is a solution for that! And you can surely save your file! Here’s how:

1. Click on “ctrl-alt-delete” keys.
The windows task manager will then open, click on all programs that you don’t need and end the task. You will see that all programs on your taskbar will close one by one. If this will resolve the issue! – then save! (tip# 1: if you’re working on an MS Office application, it will automatically save your file in case the programs suddenly shut down — tip# 2: always save your file at least every 2 minutes by just simply clicking on the “diskette icon”— its just one click!)

2. If it did not resolve the issue,
are there some users logged on that computer? If so, go to switch user (for XP) and log off that user, go back to your log on screen and log on again.

The reason the computer hang up is because if there are many open programs and applications, these retains in the memory, if it is too much for the memory to handle, it freezes! Another reason too the computer hang up is because if you are connected to the internet via dial up, and you are running too many applications and opening many websites. So I suggest, if you are multimedia user or a heavyinternet user, then you are better off with a higher memory, at least 512Mb of memory.

There are simple ways to avoid computer to freeze or hang up:

3. Clean your history at least once a week
>tools>internet options>clear history. I normally set my history to “0”, meaning, when I restart my computer, it doesn’t save history pages that I have visited

4. Delete all internet temporary files
>tools>internet options>delete files (do the “offline” content too!)

5. Delete cookies
(some do not do this, but I do delete cookies at least once a week!) >tools>internet options>delete cookies
6. Remove unnecessary programs that you no longer use
they are just occupying space and memory! >control panel>add/remove programs

7. Do defragmentation at least once a week
  >point the mouse to “start” button, then right click “explore”>right click the mouse pointing to drive C (which is usually the main system logical drive) >properties>tools>defragment now

8. You can also check the logical drive’s volume for errors
>point the mouse to “start” button, then right click “explore”>right click the mouse pointing to drive C (I repeat, is usually the main system logical drive) >properties>tools>check now

9. It is better to have only one user being logged on.
Even if there are many users, make sure the user logs off after using the computer, rather than keeping it logged on and you do the switching of users. Switching users is good as long as you don’t keep all users logged on—I think that is more logical

10. Always shut down properly the computer
(do NOT use the power button when turning it off!

Solve HardDisk Detection Problem With Your Motherboard BIOS

During POST (Power On Self Test), the BIOS try to get information about all the devises Connected to the system.
After checking the processor and RAM it checks for devise such you’re hard disk, CD-ROM, etc., and display them on screen with messages such As ‘detecting IDE drives…’ and Found Primary Master….’etc.
Sometimes your BIOS Just refuses to recognize your hard disk, basically making it useless-there’s no way windows will recognize your hard disk if the BIOS doesn’t. Let’s see why this happens:

Reasons for not detecting hard disk:

  • The most common reason is a loose or badly connected data cable. Make sure the data cable is plugged in properly, both into the hard disk, as well as the motherboard.
  • The same goes for power cable, so check that as well. Also, make sure that the red lines on the data cable and power cable are adjacent to each other.
  • One you’ve ruled out any cable problems, check the jumper setting on the drives. If two drives are connected to a port, make sure one is set as master and the other as Slave, or else both are set to Cable Select.
  • Next, make sure your drive controllers on your motherboard are not disabled. These controllers control IDE devices, and without them the BIOS cannot detect the drives.
  • Go to the BIOS setup, and under the Integrated Peripherals menu, make sure that ‘On Board HDC’ is enabled for both Primary and Secondary channels.
  • Also ensure that all drive types are set to AUTO under the Standard CMOS Setting.
  • If you are not comfortable with changing the BIOS values, just reset the BIOS to factory defaults.
When all else fails, so has your hard disk send it to a technician for servicing.
I hope this Guide will solve your hard disk detection problem on your motherboard bios.

[How-To]Create Custom Keyboard Shortcuts in Word 2007

Keyboard shortcuts save computer users much time and effort, but who determines which commands are worthy of having a shortcut? In Word 2007, you do! You can create a keyboard shortcut for nearly any task in Word, from saving documents in a certain format, to quickly highlighting selected text—the options are endless. All it takes is a couple minutes worth of customization.
1. Click the Office Button and select Word Options at the bottom right of the menu.

2. Click Customize on the left menu. On the menu that appears on the right, click Customize next to the words “keyboard shortcuts.”
3. The menu that then appears lists all of the commands Word 2007 allows through its various toolbar menus. They are grouped into categories according to what they do, but if you scroll to the bottom of the list on the left, there is an option to view all commands.
Choose any command from the right menu and the box on the bottom left of the menu labeled “Current keys” displays the current shortcut assigned to that command. Most commands in the list do not have keyboard shortcuts assigned, but there are many that do.
For instance, if you choose the “underline” command from the box on the right, the “current keys” box below will list the common “CTRL+U” shortcut, which is second nature to most long term Word users.
The box beside this one, though, is the box that is most import to setting custom shortcuts. It is labeled “Press New Shortcut Key.” We can change or add any keyboard shortcut we want by simply choosing a command from the list, selecting this box and pressing the buttons we’d like assigned to the chosen command.
For example, one of the most common marks an editor uses is a strikethrough (abc). In Word 2007, the option to strikethrough requires selecting text, then clicking a button at the top of the Home tab. By using a custom shortcut, we can eliminate the mouse totally from the equation. To assign a shortcut to the strikethrough we would simply:
4. Choose Strikethrough from the commands list on the left of the menu. You should see that there is no shortcut currently assigned to this command, as the “Current Keys” box will be blank.
5. Click the Press New Shortcut Key box.
6. Type any key or key combination you would like to represent the strikethrough command. We use ALT+S, so while the cursor is on the Press New Shortcut Key box, we hold the ALT key while hitting the S key.

Word will tell you if your new shortcut is in conflict with any current shortcuts. A message will appear under the “current keys” box on the right that says, “currently assigned to .”
If this happens, you can simply choose another shortcut by clicking on the Press New Shortcut Key box.
7. Once you have chosen the shortcut you want, all that is left is to click Assign at the bottom left of the screen.

From now on, when you hit the combination of keys you chose, your command will magically happen!

Just make sure that you have the “Use welcome screen” option activated in Control Panel –> Users Accounts –> Logon and Logoff Options before trying to apply this trick.
Basically there are two ways to change your login screen. one is to either replace your default login screen with your new one and the other method is to play with the registry such that it recognizes the new login screen as the default one ..
The following steps will guide you how to over write your existing login screen with your new one.

Here are the steps

1. Make a backup copy of C:\windows\system32\logonui.exe
2. Rename your new login screen to logonui.exe
3. Overwrite the existing login screen file with your new login screen and thats it you are done.
Second method that will help Windows identify your new login screen as the default one. The good thing about this trick it that you don’t have to delete or replace your original login screen file. Here it goes.
1. Copy your custom login screen file under another name, let’s say logonuiA.exe, to      C:\Windows\system3\
2. Open Start menu –> Run –> and type Regedit
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE –> SOFTWARE –> Microsoft –> Windows NT –> CurrentVersion –> Winlogon and change the value for UIHost to logonuiA.exe.

How To Hide a harddisk partition in Windows Xp/Vista

You may need to hide a drive either for security reasons (to ensure that children do not have access to a backup drive, for example) or for practical reasons (if your PC has multiple memory card readers never used).
Here’s how to do so, under XP and Vista.
A command in the registry will tell Windows Explorer not to display some readers.
Technically, the system uses a binary value of 32 bits where each bit corresponds to a reader. Bit 0 is the drive A, bit 1 in drive B, etc.. When this bit is “1″ the player is hidden, otherwise it is visible.
  • Go to Start, then Run and then type regedit.
  • Deploy the “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer”
  • If the DWORD (32 bit) named NoDrives does not exist, start by creating (click the right mouse button and select New then Value DWORD).
  • Double-click NoDrives to amend this item, select Base Decimal and enter into the data field the decimal value of the player to hide (e.g. 512 for the drive J: )
  • If you hide multiple drives, take their different decimal values and add them.
  • A: 1
  • B: 2
  • C: 4
  • D: 8
  • E: 16
  • F: 32
  • G: 64
  • H: 128
  • I: 256
  • J: 512
  • K: 1024
  • L: 2048
  • M: 4096
  • N: 8192
  • O: 1638
  • P: 32768

7 Ways to Speed Up Windows 7

With the release of Windows 7, Microsoft may just have introduced the fastest operating system in the world. For those speed junkies who are never satisfied, i have provided a few tips that will help you make your PC even faster.

Disable Automatic Disk Defragmentation

The Automatic Disk Defragmentation feature in Windows is designed to maintain the health of the operating system. However, it also makes Windows run a little slower. You can put an end to this by disabling the feature and manually running at your leisure. To do so, click “Start” and select “Computer.” Next, right click on your primary hard drive and select “Properties.” Lastly, select the “Tools” tab, click “Defragment Now” and uncheck the “Run on a schedule” option.

Utilize ReadyBoost

ReadyBoost is a built-in Windows 7 feature that allows you to use a USB flash drive to enhance system performance. How is this possible? The drive itself acts as additional computer memory!

In order to make use of this feature, you will need a USB drive with at least 2 GB of space. From there, you simply connect the drive to your computer, click “Start” and select “Computer.” Next, click on the USB drive and select “ReadyBoost.” Lastly, select “Use this device” and choose as much capacity as possible below on the “Space to reserve for system speed” slide.

Disable Windows Transparency

The transparency of windows is a great perk from a presentation aspect, but this may not be the case for those with older hardware as it can drastically impact performance. The good thing is that transparency can be disabled with ease. Simply right-click on your desktop, select “Personalize,” choose the active theme and then navigate to “Windows Color.” Finally, uncheck the “Enable Transparency” option.

Disable Unwanted Features

There may be numerous Windows 7 features that you really don’t need. These same features could also slow down your computer. To disable them, click on “Start,” choose “Control Panel” and then select “Programs and features.” Next, select the “Turn Windows features on or off” option, navigate through the list and uncheck all the features you want to disable. Once you are done, simply click “OK” to remove those features.

Disable Startup Services

Startup services are notorious for slowing down performance in XP and Vista. The same holds true for Windows 7. You can disable unwanted services by hitting “Start,” typing “msconfig” in the search bar and clicking “Enter.” Click the “Services Tab” on the next window and deselect the services you do not want to automatically run at startup. While this all depends on preference, services that impact performance the most include “Offline Files,” “Tablet PC Input Services,” Terminal Services,” “Fax” and “Windows Search.”

Disable Minimizing/Maximizing Animations

Many users have already fallen in love with the minimizing and maximizing animation effects of windows. However, some may find it irritating after a while as it can eventually lead to slowdowns. If you want to disable this function, hit “Start,” enter “System Properties Performance” in the search bar and click “OK.” On the next screen, deselect the “Animate window when minimizing and maximizing” option and click “OK.”

Update Your Windows 7 Drivers

Lastly, ensure that you have the latest device drivers made specifically for Windows 7. Since your PC can have hundreds of drivers installed in it at any given time, this task can be tedious. Luckily there are 3rd party utilities out thee such as DriverFinder™, which can greatly speed up this process.

How to Change Windows XP Start Button Text and Logo

Learn how to hack / change your start button in Windows XP

One of the most annoying thing in windows XP is the start button text, which almost every user want to change as per my experience. I’ve read a number of articles on the internet about changing the text on the Start button in XP, however many of them are incomplete, difficult or unsafe. Here i wiil show you exactly how to change the "start" button to whatever you like and even change the picture next to it.

This tutorial is more for advanced pc users, so if you are a begginer or not shure what are you doing, i strongly recommend you to use System Restore to undo changes if problems occur. You can read more about System Restore here.
Step 1: Modify explorer.exe

First of all you need to download a program called Resource Hacker that will really assist you in helping you find what you are looking for and making sure you do not mess up along the way.

Download Resource Hacker

As always before changing anything make shure you back up everything you edit or delete. So open My Computer and navigate to C:\Windows and look for explorer. Copy paste it to a safe location on your hard drive.

Now that you've backed it up, start Resource Hacker and open explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe

Change the Windows Start Button Text

Expand the "String Table" menu, then select folder 37 and click on 1033. The "start" value is on line 4, after the 578. Change the text "start" to anything you want, making sure you keep the quotes. In this example i changed the text to "Hacking Tips and Tricks".

Press the Compile Script button to make Resource Hacker put together the code.

Change the Picture Next to
the Windows Start Button

Collapse the String Table folder and expand the Bitmap folder, then select folder 143 and right-click on 1033. Select "Replace Resource", then click on "Open file with new bitmap". Select a Bitmap picture (.bmp extension) with a size of 25 pixels by 20 pixels. Click the Replace button. if you would like to make a bitmap image with transparency, you will need an advanced icon making program such as Axialis IconWorkshop.

When you have changed your button to whatever you want, click "File", "Save As", and save it as explorerhacked.exe. (Note: You can change it to whatever you like, but in this demonstration i am using the explorerhacked file).

Step 2: Changing the Registry

Now that the modified explorer.exe has been created it's necessary to modify the registry so the file will be recognized when the user logs on to the system. Go to "Start", "Run", and type in "regedit". When the Registry Editor loads expand to the following directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,SOFTWARE, Microsoft, Windows NT, CurrentVersion, and WinLogon. In that directory find the entry that is titled "Shell" and right-click it. Select "Modify". Now, type in ExplorerHacked.exe.

All you have to do now is reboot your computer and log back in to Windows XP. You should see the changes that you've made to the Start button.

Here is how my start button looks like. I know it's far from perfect, but anyway i costumized it just to present you this tutorial.

How to Improve Windows XP Shutdown Speed

Shorten the time it takes for your desktop to appear when you turn on your PC and make XP shut down faster as well.

In some cases computers running with Windows XP takes too much time to shutdown and repeatedly annoy users with pop up messages asking if you really want to quit the applications. This problem is mainly due to applications that install services that start at Windows XP boot time and then take a very long time to stop and sometimes time out when Windows is being shut down. No matter how fast your PC shuts down, it's not fast enough. This tweak reduces the time Windows-XP waits before automatically closing any running programs when you give it the command to shutdown.

How to Improve Your Computers Shutdown And Reboot Speed?

For speeding up your shutdown and reboot time in Windows XP, you need to edit some registry settings. Follow the steps as given below:

1. Go to Start then select Run

2. Type 'Regedit' and click ok

3. Find 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\'

4. Select 'WaitToKillAppTimeout'

5. Right click and select 'Modify'

6. Change the value to '1000'

7. Click 'OK'

8. Now select 'HungAppTimeout'

9. Right click and select 'Modify'

10. Change the value to '1000'

11. Click 'OK'

When you complete the above steps, you will find your Windows startup and shutdown faster than before.

Warning: Modifying the Windows registry can cause serious damage to your Windows Operating System. It is better to backup your Windows registry data before making any changes. I am not responsible for any changes you may make to your system.

See Why Windows 7 is Better Than XP and Vista

Microsoft's new operating system makes computing more intuitive—and less of a chore—while offering better overall performance.

The first thing you'll notice about Windows 7 is that it looks like Vista. It also works like Vista, in the sense that it has the same plumbing underneath, except for a very welcome graphics upgrade to DX11. However, it works much better than Vista, and most of Vista's annoyances have either been removed, or (mostly) can be changed so the system works the way you like. It takes personalisation to extremes.

See why and how Windows 7 is better than Windows Vista or Windows XP. Here is a detailed features list which you can do or can not do in different versions of Windows. Windows 7 has got some improved and some other brand new features included in it.
